Hearts and Dolls

My dad has a friend named Gil who recently had a heart transplant. All of his coworkers organized a fundraiser last weekend. It was a spaghetti dinner and a raffle drawing. Many people donated items for people to win. My mom made a Reborn Doll. Reborn dolls are baby dolls that are painted so that they look like a real baby.

At the raffle drawing, you buy tickets for a dollar and then you put them in a box by whatever you want to win. My dad bought about 100 tickets. My sister wanted the doll we made, so we put a lot of tickets in for it. My sister ended up winning it and she was really happy.

Gil had two daughters. One of them had her 12th birthday coming up. She put all of her tickets in for the baby that my mom made. After my sister got the doll, my dad came over by us and told us that Gil's daughter wanted it. He suggested that we give her the doll. We decided to because she would actually play with it.

After the drawing, my dad went over to get Gil's daughters. As they were walking over, I heard my dad say, "So I hear you have a birthday coming up." We handed her the doll & you should have seen her eyes. Her eyes got huge. We also gave her sister one of the baskets we won from bath and body works, so she wouldn't feel left out.

After she had the doll she went running over to the rest of her family and yelled, "I got my baby!" There were all cheering for her. She carried that doll everywhere and she wouldn't put it down. When she finally did, it was to fix the blanket and then she picked it up again.

My sister didn't want to give the doll away. But when she saw the girl's face when she got it, my sister said it was all worth it. When you do something really nice for someone else and you make them incredibly happy, it makes you all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

We also ended up raising $5,000 for Gil and his family.

Au revoir. Je m'en vais.
