This chapter starts out with the temptation of Jesus. Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days. He ate nothing and was tempted by the Devil for 40 days. The Devil said, "If you are the Son of God, change this stone into a loaf of bread." Jesus replies, "No! The Scriptures say, 'People need more than bread for their life.' (Deut 8:3) " Then the Devil said that he will give Jesus authority over kingdoms to Jesus. Jesus replied, "The Scriptures say, 'You must worship the Lord your God; serve only Him.' (Deut 6:13) " The Devil tells Jesus to jump off a cliff because angels will protect Him. (Psalm 91:11-12) Jesus replies, " 'Do not test the Lord your God.' (Deut 6:16) "
Jesus goes to Nazareth. He reads from Isaiah 61:1-2. Everyone is impressed by him. He says that no prophet is accepted in their own hometown. Then something happens (I'm not sure about this part) and the people there try to throw him off a cliff. (This part is Luke 4:14-30)
Jesus goes to Capernaum. While he is there, a man who is possessed comes by and starts yelling at him. Jesus says, "Be quiet." Then he tells the demon to come out of the man. The demon leaves and the people are amazed. They say, "What authority and power this man's words possess! Even the evil spirits obey him and flee at his command!" The story spreads like wild fire.
Jesus leaves the synagogue and goes to Simon's house. Simon's mother-in-law is very sick and has a fever. Jesus rebuked the fever and her temperature dropped. Other people came and he healed them too. His touch healed every one, no matter what their diseases were.
Jesus goes into the wilderness. The crowds ask him to not leave. He replied, "I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God in other places, too, because that is why I was sent." He continues traveling and preaching throughout Judea.
