The Move

Awhile ago, I posted a personal witness back in April. It was about moving waiting to move.

I had planned on posting about it, but I forgot about it until now...

So let's go back to prehistoric times, when dinosaurs ruled the world...uh...not that far. How about 1987. My dad worked at a hospital. He was a paramedic. You know, in movies, someone gets hurt and they go in an ambulance. And there are the people/"doctors" there. That's what my dad did. Then he ended up being the engineer (not the train kind). He was in charge of a bunch of people. And we had some pretty sweet hours. He was paid yearly instead of hourly. So he got to leave whenever. So he went on field trips and stuff with my sister and me.

Then in October 2007 he got a new boss. This guy is an idiot/jerk/other impolite names. He wanted to do some stuff that wasn't exactly legal. He wanted my dad to sign something saying that he had checked some safety stuff. But he hadn't done it, so my dad wouldn't sign the paper. That was a Friday. The following Monday, his boss came in to his office. He told my dad that he isn't a "right fit" anymore. My dad quit. After almost 20 years (a few months short).

Then my dad was unemployed for about a month. Then he got a job at Job Corps (like high school. you can get GEDs there). He worked there about a year. He liked working there, but he made a lot less money. Which really sucked. 'Cause we had to spend a lot on swim team.

(I made a chart for it. And that's just me. double for my sister.) *disclaimer* that's for everything we did. not just one year
So less money sucked. Then December of 2008, he got a job offer. A big promotion. Making twice as much as he was at that Job Corps. Unfortunately, there were only 3 places with the opening. Oregon, Texas, and Minnesota. We live in Iowa. So no matter which one he picked, we would have to move. He asked us which one we wanted. They each had pros and cons.

Oregon
+near the ocean. I've never been to the ocean.
 -halfway across the country
Texas
+I have a guy friend in Texas. Who I don't get to see often.
+there is an OAFC group there. Mine has died :(
-halfway across the country, but at least the same time zone
 -aren't there hurricanes there?
Minnesota
+my dad's brother lives there. In the town the job was in.
+there is an OAFC group there
-uh, there weren't really many negatives...but it's still a move...

My dad ended up picking Minnesota. He's been living with his brother since December 2008. Six hour commute every weekend for almost two years.

We've been trying to get moved up there for the whole time. Our house wont sell though. :( So we've been stuck like this for quite awhile...

Now I don't know if I want to still move. I want my family to get back together. And I'll probably be going to Minnesota for college, and state residents get cheaper tuition. But, this is my senior year. I have been going to the same school for my entire life. I don't know if I want to go to a new school for my last year of high school...

So this turned out longer than expected...and I even left out a part I wanted to add. It will be in my next post.

And now you have seen a little intimate piece of my life that I have never told anyone about. (at least not the whole story) You should feel special.

Hoping it turns out for the best,
